The Civil Liberties Committee has recently approved the plans to waive visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens to enter the Schengen Area. In other words, if the plan is also approved by the EP and Council, the Ukrainian citizens with biometric passports will be allowed to stay in the Schengen Area without a visa for 90 days in the period of 180 days.
The visa liberalization talks between the EU and Ukrainian Government started in 2008. According to the European Commission, by the end of 2015 Ukraine made the necessary progress and met all the standards, despite the internal and external issues in recent years. The EC therefore proposed to grant Ukrainian citizens visa-free access to the EU.
